Recruitment - Targets versus professionalism
The majority of people coming into the recruitment industry are fresh from university, and while this is not necessarily a bad thing,
it does mean that they have limited ‘life’ experience, and with the diversity of companies and candidates that they will be dealing with,
I cannot help but think that life experience is an essential thing.
Even those people who come into recruitment with some previous work experience often find the diversity of recruitment a challenge,
and the industry has always been hit by high staff turnover often struggling to recruit and retain good staff.
If the emphasis was more on providing a great service to both client and candidate, rather than how many calls, how many interviews,
how many visits, and how many placements, then I feel that the industry would not come under the criticism that it often does.
If a true measure of success is to be given, then surely details such as how long a placed candidate stays at a company, how they progress
and the impression they make within the business are far better.
