Recruitment - Targets versus professionalism
Recruitment has always been an industry where there are targets, and for many consultants their bonus can often make up the majority
of their salary, but are we making it harder for them to do a ‘good job’ and putting too much emphasis on the figures and not enough
on people.
Making targets and commission a strong focus also means that the type of people attracted to the industry, and who on current measures
succeed, are not necessarily the ones that offer the highest levels of professionalism. It is a well known fact that good sales people,
are not often good paperwork people, and in an industry that is as heavily regulated as recruitment, this is often a recipe for disaster.
While people are so focussed on making the placement and earning their commission, are they really thinking about the best long term
fit for the company and would they be honest if they did not think they had the right person, or would they create a fit just to reach
their targets. Are candidates really getting the best deal and their long term happiness being considered, or are we making the process
too short sighted by the very measures we have put in place to apparently make consultants perform well.
